Waihīrere, from the Tairāwhiti region, will close the preliminary stages of Te Matatini 2015.
Waihīrere are one of the perennial favourites, as well as being one of the most successful groups in the competition’s history, with 5 titles.
The draw of the 45 kapa haka performing at Te Matatini 2015 was conducted tonight by Te Matatini chair, Selwyn Parata.
Three even pools, Te Ihu, Te Haumi and Te Kei, will see all groups perform over three days, from March 5 to March 8, 2015.
The top nine groups, made up of the top three from each section, will perform on the final day, March 9th, for the right to be crowned ‘Toa Whakaihuwaka’, the "Champion of Champions".
