Te Huatai Katorika is a culmination of Sacred Heart and St Bernard College students from Te Awakairangi, Lower Hutt, representing their local iwi, Te Ātiawa.
Te Huatai Katorika has been an avid participant of their regional Secondary School Kapa Haka competitions since 2007.
In 2012, the kapa travelled to Whangarei to make their debut on the national stage.
The group founded by whānau of Sacred Heart College is tutored by Rogan Tanirau, Jesse Huriwai, Te Aroha Wilson, Carmel Taiaroa, Sophie Wells and Lenny Hura King.
Kessyd Paranihi Nuku is their manukura wahine, and Joseph Afoa is their manukura tane.
Today, they perform their poi 'Ngāti Ipurangi' which was composed by, and they dedicate to, Keriana Whati, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
