Te Ara Whānui is a Ngāpuhi based rōpū who affiliate to Te Uri o Hua, Ngāti Whakaaeke, and Te Matarahurahu hapū. Their mission statement is "Wherawheraina, Horahoraina".
Formed in 1978, Te Ara Whānui made their national debut in 2006 at Mystery Creek. They then performed in 2008 at Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
It has been 8 years since the group last stood.
The white on their kākahu depicts peace within their iwi. The red depicts anger.
Phoenix Henare-Clarke is this year's kaitātaki tāne, while Zarya Quitta is the kaitātaki wahine.
Tutors this year include Beaumyn Wihongi, Awarua Savage, Honey Reihana-Ruka, Dena Maree Hemara, Ben Compain, Kauwiti Selwyn and Tangaroa Paul.
