For over half a century Mina Timutimu of Te Atiawa and Ngāti Mutunga dedicated her life to midwifery and nursing.

Mina died aged 82 in Whakatane.  The College of Midwives Chief Executive Karen Guilliland says, " Mina’s contribution to midwifery in New Zealand and to the health and welfare of families in her community was inestimable.

She was a major source of knowledge and strength to the college and will be greatly missed.  Her life work in the health industry will be remembered."

Mina Timutimu was at the forefront of developments in the Maori health field and her contribution to midwifery in New Zealand was substantial.

Earlier this year Mina was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit.

She will be farewelled tomorrow at Tauarau Marae in Ruatoki.
