After a four year recess, Te Kapa o Mangatū return to the Tamararo competition rejuvenated and led by a new generation of Ngā Ariki Kaipūtahi members.

The group has a history that spans back over 75-years and are based at Matangatū Marae with affiliations to Ngā Ariki Kaipūtahi and Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki.

Under the tutorship of Tāwera Tahuri, Corrie Brooking and Ameriai Kiriwera, the group is lead on stage today by Tommy Brown (male leader) and Jacklyn Cameron Nepia.

Their Waiata-a-ring (actions song) called “Mau Parekawakawa” is an acknowledge to their Ngā Ariki Kaipūtahi tīpuna who were killed and imprisoned on Te Whare Kauri as a result of the Waerenga-a-hika land wars against the Crown and it’s supporters.
