Preparations are well underway at Tūrangawaewae Marae in Ngāruawāhia to cater for the multitudes of people arriving to celebrate the 9th Coronation of King Tuheitia.
The locals have been flat out preparing for five days of celebrations, which lie ahead. If all is well behind the scenes, all shall go smoothly in the front.
Rose Whaanga says, “What I do is look after the offices and welcome in the medical team that's here for the Koroneihana.”
Kawe Nikora says, “My main role is to cater and give care to the people, no matter what, I am the host.”
This is the 9th Coronation for King Tuheitia and organisers and their workers have many expectations.
Nikora says, “My hope for the coming event is to promote unity within families and iwi Māori, no matter who, unity, love, rights and protocols.”
This event has been running for 74 years now at Tūrangawaewae Marae and the locals are experts at preparation and organisation, despite it just growing annually.
Rangimarie Mahuta says, “Hardly any challenges, however every year there are minor glitches to be expected in the organising of the event, that's about it.”
Tomorrow tears will flow, when Waikato-Tainui acknowledges those who have passed on.
