The Indigenous Runway Project debuted in New Plymouth last night before a packed crowd of over 300.
Ngāti Ruanui, Ngaruahine descendant, Clive Tongaawhikau says, “Spirits are high, the synergy within the room made special with the arrival of the families of Taranaki coming together for this event.”
The crowd was wowed by the designers of ‘Te Whare A Rangi’ collection who have links to Ngāti Maniapoto and Te Aupouri. Their designs had elements of traditional and contemporary materials.
Betty Brown-Wenekerei says, “I have a lot of love for both of them because they are taking our gifts around the country and showing them to the world, the treasures of our ancestors, because I can feel the presence of our ancestor Hinekino here with us.”
The pathway has been set for the future as organisers begin to plan for the next Indigenous Runway Project.
