Sacred Heart College recently played host to 10 schools participating this year in the Wairarapa Awakairangi Regional Manu Kōrero competition.

25 young orators expressed their views on various topics, and regional co-ordinator Shiro Nippert says the judges were impressed with all of the speakers, and the level of thought and research that had gone into their speeches.

While only four students will advance to compete in the national competition being held later this year, the Junior English section saw a first equal between Aymee Williamson-Symon from St Orans and Whaiora Kennedy from Naenae College.

On a count-back it was ruled that Aymee was the winner and will be representing the region at national level.
