Whangarei is the northernmost city in Aotearoa.

Its location has the best of both worlds. It’s famous for its long sandy white beaches, beautiful native bush and colorful city. It has an estimated population of more than 55,000.

Pehiaweri Marae in Glenbervie, Whangarei is well known in its community for being lively, self-sustainable and community driven. For many years local Māori have held singing classes at the marae to bring the community together. Locals have the opportunity to learn te reo and tikanga all through the joy of singing.

Te Kāea reporter Raniera Harrison gives us a glimpse into his hometown.
