Police to brief media on shooting of man in Myers Park

A media briefing will be held this morning regarding a man who was shot by Police last night in Myers Park, Auckland.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified about the shooting which occurred at around 7.45pm.

Police say the man was known to them and they were in the process of locating and notifying his next of kin.

Acording to the Police they were called to Myers Park by the man at 7.23pm and, on arrival, attending staff were advised by him that he was armed.

Armed officers were called out to the scene and verbal negotiations were initiated but were unsuccessful.

The man was fatally shot when Police say he indicated he was about to use a firearm. The man died at the scene.
