Pao Pao Pao is seeking expressions of interest from emerging Māori artists to take part in this year's programme.
This kaupapa-driven platform has been a way of bringing together emerging and established Māori musicians to help develop and nurture musicianship by utilising the teina-tuakana support structure, a vision of the late Dr Hirini Melbourne.
Three weekends of wānanga are planned to be held in Auckland during July, and before the end of the programme, participants will perform a special Matariki showcase at Tātai Hono Marae alongside high profile musicians.
There are three key stages of Pao Pao Pao, which create pathways for the chosen artists and to highlight excellence in Māori musicianship.
PAO 1: Te Kune - the conception
PAO 2: Te Whiwhia - the expansion or development
PAO 3: Te Rawea - the execution or success
Key dates for the programme are:
Wānanga dates: July 04- 05 / July 11- 12
Matariki showcase date: July 18
Final wānanga date: July 19
Applications close Monday 22 June, 5pm. Forms can be found here.
