Northland artist Colleen Elizabeth Waata Urlich, JP, OMNZ passed away suddenly last week at her home in Dargaville.

Waata Urlich graced this world with her presence for 76 years.  She was known as a passionate ceramicist and clay artist who dedicated her life to the development of Māori art, old and new.

A descendant of Te Popoto o Ngāpuhi ki Kaipara and Te Rarawa, she was laid to rest today at her tribal burial grounds at Oturei in Kaipara.
