The Gisborne District Council is being accused of secretively dumping raw sewage into the rivers and ocean.

It was so secretive even the Mayor of Gisborne, Meng Foon says he had no idea it was happening.

So then who is responsible for informing the community of this public health risk?

Mana Whenua are outraged there was no warning sign or any form of public notice.

Only when a local Māori marine biologist was accidently sent an email stating the sewer gates had been opened did the public become aware.

Renee Kahukura-Iosefa headed to Gisborne to investigate.
