The signing of the Waikato Raupatu treaty settlement in 1995 was the first major settlement of historical confiscation. As a result the iwi received cash and land valued at $170mil.

It transformed the tribe in more ways than one and not always for the better. But as Renee Kahukura-Iosefa reports, the iwi has come a long way in twenty years.
