The MMA Pound in Māngere has only been open for nine months but has already created a strong sense of community with many Māori and Pasifika families opting to spend their Easter morning doing physical activities together.

Head trainer Felise Leniu, also known as "The Fobfather" says they're all about promoting a family environment.

The fun day included face-painting, a bouncy castle, Easter egg hunt, as well as looking at technique in a "kicks" competition.

The MMA Pound "Fairy", Ina Schwalger, says the day was also about bringing members and their families together and celebrating Easter.

Leniu, former Australian kick-boxing champion, hopes to get the whole community fighting fit.

Gym member Ernie Delamere's whole whānau is part of the gym, including his four young boys.  He says his boys are enjoying it and the positive vibe is important to them.

Encouraging exercise and a shift to healthy lifestyle choices, the crew at The MMA Pound showed locals first-hand that getting lively on Easter morning can be worth the effort.
