A few hundred gathered to remember Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu at her residence of Waahi Pā, for a memorial breakfast to mark the 10th anniversary of her passing today.
Three of Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu’s great grandchildren were christened as part of the memorial, including the daughter of Te Atairangikaahu’s grandson, Turongo Paki.
“This is the appropriate time to have her three great grandchildren christened, on the memorial day of our Queen. Her spirit lives on within all of us her descendants, the spirit of our grandmother continues on,” said Mr Paki.
Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu passed away this day in 2006, surrounded by members of the royal household at Tūrangawaewae marae, after a long battle with health issues.
