Man dies after police fire shot in Paeroa

Police are still working to build a full picture of events following the death of a man in Paeroa this morning.

The man died after Police fired a shot during an incident.

Police say they were responding to reports of an individual being threatened with a machete at a private address in the small town.

They say on their arrival the man allegedly threatened them with a weapon.

The 57-year-old man was local and known to Police.

First aid was provided at the scene but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Police have cordoned off the scene and will be conducting a thorough investigation.

The family of the dead man and officers involved are being provided with the support they need.
