Kapa haka audiences now have a luxury offering when it comes to watching Te Matatini 2017. Spectators will be able to purchase $1000 tickets that will give you access to the Pāua Club.
Included in the ticket price is VIP parking, secretarial services, comfortable seating in a relaxed and cool environment, with food being served every day by top chefs.
However, the lounge is a strictly no alcohol zone and is designed to be used as a private business hub for people to network, hold business meetings and enjoy all the services a meeting room can offer.
Ticket holders will also get access to all events leading up to Te Matatini starting from Waitangi Day 2017 and will receive a special goodie bag and are able to attend an exclusive gala dinner on the final night.
The Pāua Club lounge does not get a direct view of the stage, instead, there are large screens inside and ticket holders can move freely between the lounge and the VIP seated area which are the best seats in the house.
“We don’t want to become elitists," says Aroha Te Kanawa, sponsorship manager for Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc, "it’s about opening us up to the world on an international level and it’s about us being a bit more aware that this is the most unique event in the New Zealand calendar,"
“A lot of people would buy for their kuia as a gift so they can go and sit in the lounge and be out of the hot sun and people are able to share the ticket with their colleagues so that everyone can have a turn inside the comfort of the lounge," she says.
The idea was modelled off the Club 500 that was executed at the Rotorua Te Matatini festival in 2013 where tickets were sold for $500.
The week-long festival will include a four-day kapa haka extravaganza where the top 1600 kapa haka competitors in the world will compete on stage. It's being held at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park and is expected to attract around 15,000 visitors every day.
Pāua Club tickets can be purchased via the Kahungu Festival website but there are only 500 tickets available.
