"Te paiaka o te ora, The root of goodness," that's what Carlos and Olga Martinesz have labelled the kiwi icon, kūmara.
Now the couple are using kūmara to push the boundaries a little further for kiwi sweet-tooths. They have now created a match made in heaven called Kūmara Fusion Chocolate, a sophisticated blend of kūmara paste and chocolate.
Not only will the blissful treat take your taste buds on an adventure, Kūmara Fusion Chocolate is also gluten free, 99% fat free with no artificial colors or preservatives.
The couple began selling their unique product at the farmers markets in Dargaville which was an instant hit with the locals. They also produce other tasteful treats such as Kūmara Fusion Original Paste and Kūmara Fusion Honey.
Mr and Mrs Martinesz made the trip to Aotearoa from their homeland, Basque, which sits between Spain and France, with the hope of sharing their food knowledge with New Zealanders. The couple have now moved from Mangawhai in Northland to Auckland, looking to expand their business to the rest of the country.
