Iron Māori founder Heather Skipworth has been newly elected as a board member onto the Hawke's Bay District Health Board, a challenge she is relishing. But it's the Beehive she has her sights set on, hoping to one day be the Māori Party candidate for the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti seat.

The Iron Māori event has become one of the most popular endurance events on the calendar, growing from 300 entrants' five years ago to 2500 this year.

Its creator, Heather Skipworth, will now be relinquishing the Iron Māori reins as she now focuses on her new role with the Hawke's Bay District Health Board.
