A man at the centre of a police stand-off in the Bay of Plenty has been arrested without incident.

The man allegedly shot four police officers yesterday at an address on Onepu Springs Road.

Family and friends attempted to work closely with police to resolve the situation and urged the individual to surrender.

The stand-off at the house continued throughout the night and armoured vehicles arrived this morning.

According to a statement issued by Police Commissioner, Mike Bush;

"The male surrendered without incident and has been taken into custody.

Our priority was always to resolve this without further risk to police staff or the public.

This welcome development follows lengthy contact throughout the night with the individual by police negotiators and other police staff.

The individual will be given a medical check and taken to Whakatane police station."

Family have told Te Kaea reporter Mere McLean they had been pleading with police to send in an Iwi Liasion officer to assist them in resolving the situation without further injury.

An Iwi Liasion officer arrived this morning and the family says he has been instrumental in helping them convince the man to give himself up.
