2015 is a new year, and for Waikato-Tainui it's the start of the implementation of a new governance structure. And the first poukai of the year was held at Horahora Marae.

The annual Poukai hui is one of the most important events held on all marae throughout Tainui.

Horahora Marae has hosted the Poukai for 81 years. Pat Kingi, elder of this marae says there will be many benefits under the new marae governance structure.

He says, “It's only right that the power and authority are with Marae. Under the governance structure we have 33 hapū.”

The implementation of the new Governance structure of marae throughout Tainui is a key focus of what lies ahead this new year of 2015.

Tom Moana believes the new Governance infrastructure will help strengthen a pathway forward of unity for the tribe.

He says,“If we are working together, keeping things simple, working in unity that will benefit everyone.”

The new Marae Governance infrastructure will commence next month following the tribal elections.
