It's no surprise that Auckland has a serious housing crisis as the 14th least affordable city out of all 378 cities in the world.

With the government's 2015 Budget just hours away from release, home buyers are hoping there's something in there for them.

For Kiri Piahana and her whānau, their dream came true about six months ago.

She says, “Never would we ever imagine that would have been able to own our own home, it's something that we believed impossible after coming here from Christchurch.”

But the stark reality is that there are hundreds like Kiri Piahana still hoping to buy their own home.

“It's such a concern. We had rented in Auckland and moved about 5 different times in Auckland just due to the way that the accommodation is and it was just always such a worry,” says Piahana.

Many people hope that tomorrow's Budget will help families buy their own home.

Piahana says, “It's just that stability of knowing that your tamariki have a home, a roof over their heads, that you don't have to worry about that, you know that they have somewhere to go every day and that their looked after.”

Now it's just a waiting game to find out what the government is allocated to the housing crisis.
