National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Champions, Rākaumangamanga returned home to their marae at Waahi Pā and were given a king's welcome by friends and family.

According to Ora Kihi, “It's amazing to see because it's been a while since Te Wharekura o Rākaumanga have visited this marae, and to see the support of the community, it brings out a happy vibe.”

It's an important year for Waikato-Tainui, as they celebrated the 150th year anniversary of the NZ Land Wars, which was their main theme at the competition.

Ora Kihi says, “If we are to do this, they would have to stand as if they were going to war, a child would stand next to his  dad, a girl would stand next to her sister or her mother, it didn't matter if you were a male or female during battle, and that's why the women were the same as the men.”
