Brothers in Arms is a charitable organisation that pairs at risk Māori youth with mentors who have similar interests.
This is Dave Henvest and 10-year-old, Manu Hohepa. They may look very different, but in fact they have very similar backgrounds.
Dave has been mentoring Manu for about a year now through the Brothers in Arms mentoring programme.
Manu was referred to Brothers in Arms by CYF because of the lack of male involvement in his life, an issue Dave knows all too well.
Wade McMillan, general manager of Brothers in Arms, says getting the right mentor is crucial to the success of the young ones.
The connection that Manu and Dave have built is priceless.
Dave says he has seen a huge change in Manu's confidence and attitude.
