The Tāmaki Redevelopment Company has partnered with the Government and Auckland Council to launch plans for a new Early Childhood Education centre for Glenbrae Primary, including the redevelopment of the local Scout Hall and 32 new homes.

According to Hemi Pene, “It's because of this partnership between the community and the Government that this project is happening and it's for the benefit of all the families here.”

The minister was amidst the anger of the community over the years recently with the eviction of families and removal of houses, and today the voice of dissent can still be heard.

Mr Pene says, “Some here are still bitter at the Minister of Housing NZ for recent events, we can only sympathise however new housing is the key, and that's what's happening.”

The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Tāmaki Redevelopment Company this month with funding of $9.6mil over the next three years.

The Glen Innes community remains strong as they look towards a brighter future.
