It’s an initiative run by BikeNZ to teach biking skills including cycling safety and its health benefits to the elderly.

Seniors and adults in Hastings have been fortunate this week to get the opportunity to take part and boost their cycling skills.

According to participant Donna Whitiwhiti, “We're here to learn bike safety rules and support the Pakeke Kaumatua Cycle Skills Training initiative.”

As well as the health benefits, there's also a chance for a bit of competition.

Donna says, “It's a healthy initiative as well for us as many other elders are sitting idle or unfit. We come here for the exercise.”

BikeNZ hopes that more adults and the elderly get on their bikes to come and support this initiative.
