Te Taikura o Te Awa Tupua was established in January 2010, and are now an active and loyal group of over 60 silver-haired members.
Their membership has grown over the years, and now they meet every Sunday, practising waiata that have been passed down from their ancestors.
Many of their waiata have also been composed by their esteemed kapa haka tutor Morvin Simon, and his wife and tutor, Kura Simon.
Their members say they are grateful for Morvin's and Kura's tutelage and their commitment to this special whānau, and are extremely proud of the rōpū's achievements.
Every June, they perform at Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington to celebrate the Kaumātua Kapa Haka Celebrations with other rōpū from across Aotearoa.
They also perform at private and public events in their own region and neighbouring towns.
Their leaders this year are Kataraina Millin and Colling Puohotaua.
