Taranaki ki te Tonga Pahake Rōpū was established in 2006, who meet monthly for to revive hīmene, waiata, waiata ā-ringa, poi and haka of old, under the tuition of Syd Kershaw, Tupito Maruera and Patricia Ngarewa.
Initially, they were established to heed the call from the Te Matatini Committee to acknowledge kaumātua at the 2007 festival.
Its dedicated members are drawn from Ngāti Ruanui, Ngā Rauru and Ngā Ruahinerangi iwi.
Taranaki ki te Tonga performed at the Te Matatini Festival held in Palmerston North, and to date, have attended all five Te Papa Tongarewa Matariki Celebrations in Wellington.
Today, they wowed the crowd with their unique style of haka, a moment spectators will never forget.
