38-year-old to appear in court over death of man in Northland

A 38-year-old man will appear in the Kaitaia District Court today charged in relation to the death of a man in Te Kao last night.

Police say a 77-year-old man was found badly injured at a residential property with knife injuries. He later died in hospital.

The 38-year-old was arrested and will be interviewed by Police this morning.  At this point, the exact charges haven't been confirmed.

Investigations Manager, Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says, "The alleged offender and the victim are long-time family friends.

After the alleged attack, the 38-year-old man has gone to another friend's house and spoken with them.

As a result of what he has said, Police have been called.

The alleged offender remained at the property during this time, and when Police arrived, he was taken into custody without incident."
