A 29-year-old has entered no plea to charges he faces in relation to an alleged serious assault on a one-month-old baby girl currently in Starship Children’s Hospital.
According to Police the incident is believed to have occurred at Waitara on Friday 6 November.
Police say the girl’s mother initially took the baby to Waitara Medical Centre where she was transferred to Taranaki Base Hospital in a serious condition and was later flown to Starship Hospital for treatment.
They say the girl’s condition is currently stable and improving.
The 29-year-old orchard worker charged in relation to the alleged assault appeared in the New Plymouth District Court on Monday charged with injuring with intent to injure, wounding with reckless disregard and breaching a protection order.
He has been remanded in custody to reappear on December 3.
