16-year-old charged with murder of Luke Tipene

Police have charged a 16-year-old teenager with murder for the death of promising young rugby league player, Luke Tipene.

Luke's body was taken to the Glenora Bears Rugby League Club where he grew up and developed his talents.

Family and friends of 17-year-old Luke Tipene are still in shock and are finding it hard to come to grips with their loss.

Close to 500 people packed out the Glenora Bears club room with some mourners standing outside.  Many of Luke’s friends still can’t comprehend what has happened.

The 16-year-old boy who has been charged  will appear in youth court tomorrow but police are still investigating the case.

There will be a service tomorrow at 10 am at the Glenora Rugby League Clubrooms after that the family will take Luke to Ohaki Marae in Ahipara.
