Waitākere gears up for Waka Ama Nationals

  • Auckland

There's just a week to go until the Waka Ama Nationals at Karapiro and the focus for the two teams from the Waitākere Waka Ama Club is to return home with a medal after narrowly missing out the past few years.

Kia Tere and Waka Tere have been training for months now for a shot at redemption in their last year of the intermediate section.

Since winter the young boys of the club have been training tirelessly both on and off the water.

All the members believe they are doing exactly what they need to do to win a medal in this years intermediate section.

Although they did well in the midget section the transition to the intermediate level has been hard and securing a medal is a goal they are yet to achieve in that section.

However Kia Tere are set to leave all that in the past and are favoured to do well at this years nationals.

The second crew is Waka Tere, a new boys team that hasn't paddled at the Nationals before. They're expected to have it tough this year as 39 intermediate boys teams have registered to race.

The two teams will line up for their first race at the nationals next Tuesday.
