As the first group to take the stage, Te Puna Mārama from New South Wales set the tone for what looks to be a day full of excitement and vigour.
Te Puna Mārama was reformed in July 2013, with the hope to qualify for Te Matatini.
This year's leaders are Jesse Lake and Heleena Carroll, and their tutors are Kurariki George and Alice George.
The group members are made up predominately of young Māori who have been brought up in a foreign land seeking their identity and culture.
