Tūwhitia is a haka group established to help Māori in their communities reignite the passion to keep their culture alive in Queensland.
Established in May 2013, Tūwhitia was the result of a small whānau wanting to get back into Māori performing arts in Australia.
The initial and continual desire is to expose their children to the goodness that they were fortunate to grow up within back in Aotearoa.
They see performing as a culmination of all areas of te ao Māori, including te reo, tikanga, history and whakapapa delivered to all through song and haka.
Their leaders are Shannon Borell and Lisa Clayton-Hiko, and the rōpū is tutored by Peho Howden.
Here is their whakaeke, 'Te Ao'.
