The second debate in Native Affairs - Kōwhiri 2014 Māori Electorate special will take place tonight on Māori Television at 8:30pm.
Tonight the candidates competing for the vote in Te Tai Hauāuru will go head to head and it will be simulcast live on Māori Television and www.maoritelevision.com.
With incumbent MP Tariana Turia co-leader of the Māori Party stepping down this year, joining Mihingarangi Forbes in studio tonight will be Chris McKenzie of the Māori Party, Adrian Rurawhe who will stand for Labour in the electorate, Jack Tautokai McDonald of the Greens and Jordan Winiata of the MANA Movement.
The results relating to Te Tai Hauāuru of specially commissioned polls conducted in each of the 7 Māori seats will be revealed, with the preferred candidate result broadcasting at 5:30 on Te Kāea.
Native Affairs will then delve deeper into that and more results of the poll which will highlight the major issues and asks voters which parties and policies, if any, stand out for them.
Along with the poll results, the Native Affair's team has travelled the length and breadth of the Māori electorates to find out what’s on people’s minds. The stories will screen during each of the debates and candidates will be invited to respond to the issues raised by the grass roots voters featured.
On Election night the Kōwhiri 2014 team will also provide in depth coverage live from the Māori electorates in a 5 hour election special. The broadcast and website will also provide real time updates and results as the votes are counted in each electorate and in-depth information and unique stories throughout the night.
It will be followed by a Review special at 9 am on Sunday the 21st of September where our team will speak with the successful candidates from each electorate and discuss what’s next.
