With just four weeks until the General Election, the question is, who is leading in the Māori Electorates? Māori Television has exclusive polls and tonight Te Kāea and Native Affairs will reveal the results for Te Tai Tonga.
Rino Tirikatene is the incumbent MP for the Labour Party, Ngaire Button, former Deputy Mayor of Christchurch is standing for the Māori Party. Georgina Beyer former MP and Mayor is the candidate for the MANA Movement, while Dora Langsbury is the Green Party candidate, this is her third time contesting the Te Tai Tonga electorate.
Tune in to Te Kāea at 5:30pm, followed by Native Affairs at 8:30pm with the first of its seven Māori Electorate debate specials for Kōwhiri 2014.
Te Tai Hauāuru candidates will face off in the second 1-hour special on Wednesday August 27, and all the debates will be simulcast on Māori Television and www.maoritelevision.com.
On Election night, the Kōwhiri 2014 team will also provide in-depth coverage live from the Māori electorates in a 5-hour Election special. The broadcast and website will also provide real-time updates and results as the votes are counted in each electorate and in-depth information and unique stories throughout the night.
It will be followed by a Review Special at 9am on Sunday September 21 where our team will speak with the successful candidates from each electorate and discuss what’s next.
