Harawira calls for more help for hungry children

Hone Harawira is sticking it to the Government again over the growing number of hungry children in New Zealand schools.

He says according to the Treasury, 285,000 children are living in poverty.

To celebrate the efforts and their contribution to helping their peers a select group of Wellington youngsters were honored and treated like royalty.

The students involved help run the Breakfast in Schools programme at Naenae College. They say students going hungry is an increasing problem.

Hone Harawira challenged Bill English in Parliament to help needy children. However the Government refused to budge on its current stance.

Students say that with the right food, their hungry schoolmates will flourish.

Hone Harawira is unsure when the first reading of his 'Feed the Kids' Bill will take place however, the students have one thing on their wish list and that is gaining support for the Bill.

For the time being, with full tummies, students getting what help can be offered are grateful with any and all support they are given.
