Green Party’s Tax increase policy aims to combat child poverty

By increasing tax on those who earn over 140k to 40%, the Green Party intends to tackle the country's child poverty and inequality problem, this was their key election promise at the Party's campaign launch today.

There are three main areas the 1 billion will be distributed:

  • A new Children's Credit that will give an extra $60 a week to families currently missing out.
  • A non-discriminatory Parental Tax Credit of $220 a week in the first weeks of life for the poorest children.
  • A $500 million per year investment in children's health and education to reduce the harm caused by poverty.

The other big push again was policy around the protection of the environment, and the climate tax cut which charges pollution emitters.
