GCSB result signals end for Shearer

Leading news, David Shearer has resigned as leader of the Labour Party. After a caucus meeting today, Shearer announced his decision at a brief press conference.

Our Political Reporter Maiki Sherman was at the conference, she says the event wasn’t  a huge suprise.

Recent  polls show Labour hasn't made a huge dent in National's sitting as Government and all eyes are focused on the leadership.

David Shearer says he was waiting until their fight for the GCSB Bill had come to an end.

With that coming into effect last night, so to did his decision to step down from the leadership position.
