United Nations conference welcomes Māori curator

By Wepiha Te Kanawa

Ahead of the centennial commemorations of WWI beginning next year, the United Nations has invited a Māori curator from Te Papa Tongarewa to a special museum experts' conference. While she has much to contribute to the conference herself, she also hopes to bring a wealth of new knowledge back to NZ to incorporate here.

Puawai Cairns of Tauranga Moana feels right at home in a museum and she can't wait to meet with other museum lovers in Europe.

She'll participate in a meeting of some of the world's best museum curators. Puawai is new to the curating world, and is humbled by the invitation.

She leaves for Gallipoli tonight and hopes to show the world how we commemorate our Māori soldiers.
