The Residential Tenancies Act is to be strengthened with new requirements for insulation, smoke alarms, better enforcement and faster resolution of abandoned tenancies, Building and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith announced today.
He's been under pressure for weeks now, so Nick Smith needed to deliver a home-run.
The government itself is the largest landlord in New Zealand. Te Kāea had previously met one of their tenants struggling in their home.
The government says this law changes will benefit the wider community.
So it seems people will be put before money.
It’s hoped that families struggling throughout the country, like Ngapera Ranfurly's, will benefit from the new laws.
