Te Uri o Hau mourns the loss of Tapihana Shelford

A minister of the Rātana faith for many years, practising in Ōtamatea, Maungatūroto, Tapihana Shelford of Te Uri o Hau passed away in the early hours of this morning. He was a mandated negotiator for Te Uri o Hau claims and the chairperson of Te Rau Aroha Trust. His achievements in life were numerous.

One of Tapihana Shelford's passions was the land claims of his people, and which is why he was appointed as a negotiator for Te Uri o Hau's claims against the Crown.

Shelford was a minister of the Rātana Church at the time of his death. His family says they are proud of his many achievements in his life.

Tapihana Shelford's body will be taken to Ōtamatea Marae tonight where the family will discuss the best place to lay their treasured family member to rest.
