Te Matatini supporters flood Hagley Park for Te Ihu performances

By Te Kāea

Supporters have flooded Hagley Park as the first set of Kapa Haka prepare to take to the stage for Te Matatini 2015.

While it was a mad rush through the gates at the last festival there was a calm and steady flow of supporters this morning due to earlybird tickets being sold for this year's event.

Today 15 groups in the Te Ihu pool will give it their all and Te Kapa Haka o Kairanga of Rangitane will be the very first group to perform at 8:45 today. They will be followed by Ngāti Rangiwewehi of Te Arawa.

The Te Kāea online team will load an individual item from each group following their performances to our website  throughout the competition. Our team of reporters is also based at Te Matatini throughout the week and will bring you in depth coverage from the event and updates throughout each day.

For in depth coverage of the event be sure to tune in to Te Kāea at 5:30 and 7:00 with subtitles
