Audiences have had a sneak peek at Taika Waititi’s latest film, Hunt for The Wilderpeople with the release of its first teaser video.
The film tells the story of ‘real bad egg’ foster kid Ricky Baker who runs off into the wild New Zealand bush with his uncle. The escapade sparks a national manhunt which forces both nephew and uncle to put aside their differences. They work together to survive what becomes a hilarious and heartfelt adventure.
The story itself is based on the book Wild Pork and Watercress by New Zealand author Barry Crump.
Rising star Julian Dennison takes on the lead role as Ricky Baker, with acting icon Sam Neil playing the role of Uncle Hec.
The film received rave reviews at the recent Sundance Film Festival.
"We knew we had something special with Sam and Julian and were happy the audience felt the same way," director Taika Waititi says.
The movie will hit New Zealand cinemas on 31 March 2016.
