Taika Waititi will host this year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards which also celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Award winning film director, writer, actor and comedian Taika Waititi will return to New Zealand to host the event.
When asked about the role he will play, Waititi took a humorous approach to answering the question, "I'm really excited at being given this opportunity to read out a list of sponsors in front of thousands of people and rub shoulders with some of New Zealand's most talented people who also do music,” says Waititi.
For the first time the event will also be broadcast live on TV3 and CEO of Recorded Music NZ, Damian Vaughan says, “We’re enormously excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vodafone NZ Music Awards. In half a century, we’ve seen Ray Columbus and the Invaders win the Golden Disc in 1965 with Till we Kissed to Lorde winning Best Single for Team in 2014."
Finalists for the awards are expected to be announced next month with the event taking place on November 19.
