Specialists to interview LA Tukerangi

Police say specialist interviewers will be speaking with LA Tukerangi in detail over the next few days to piece together events that occurred in the past two weeks.

A search for 15 year old LA Tukerangi and 36 year old Dean Whakatau came to an end yesterday morning after a member of the public contacted police reporting a sighting of the vehicle they were looking for at an address east of Te Kaha.

Earlier this week, LA’s family put out a desperate plea for help after they were contacted by LA on Facebook saying she had been taken against her will at the weekend.

Police say they have arranged for LA to have a full medical assessment but she did not appear to be physically injured.

According to a statement, a 36-year-old man has been arrested without incident on unrelated matters and is in police custody.

Detective Senior Sergeant Zane Smith says, "Although LA has been located safe; there is still a great deal of work to do. We will have specialists interviewers speak with LA in detail to piece together events over the last couple of weeks and to establish if any criminal offences have been committed.”

Police have expressed sincere thanks to the community for their assistance and say without the overwhelming response they received, they may not have located LA as quickly as they did.
