A warning has been circulated that the two nautical mile exclusion zone around the Rena is still in place, but Māori in Tauranga say consequences need to be implemented for people who breach the zone.
According to a report by the Regional Bay of Plenty Environment council there have been 138 breaches of the exclusion zone since last year, it's a concern that should be reflected within the community.
A petition for the full removal of the Rena will be presented to Parliament by Pat Spellman and no doubt it will be a huge topic in Tauranga moving closer to the Elections.
The owners of the Rena applied for Resource consent to leave the wreckage where it is. The closing submission date for this ends Friday 8th of August.
