Peace vigils to be held around the country

By Te Kāea

Peace Movement Aotearoa, a group opposing the deployment of NZ troops to Iraq will hold peace vigils around the country this afternoon.

According to a press statement the Peace vigils will call for increased humanitarian assistance and diplomatic support for Middle East peace processes.

Groups are expected to gather at around 5pm this afternoon at a number of locations around the country from Hokianga to Dunedin.

For those who wish to participate and are unable to attend an organised gathering, organisers have asked that they light a candle and hold a sign saying “Not in our name” and take a photo and then post it to the Peace Movement Aotearoa Facebook page.

An Open Letter has also been created and those who want the Government to increase humanitarian assistance and diplomatic support have been asked to add their name to the 'Open letter on military deployment to Iraq.'

Details of the events around the country can be located on the Peace Movement Aotearoa Facebook page.
