NZ boxers meet opponents for first time in the US

By Tamati Tiananga

On Sunday, Robert Berridge and Joseph Parker will step into the ring for their respective bouts in America.

If they are successful, they will be in line for a title shot.

Rob Berridge and Joseph Parker have both been training hard in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The New Zealand boxers also met their opponents for the first time today.

Rob Berridge’s opponent, Vasily Lepikhin, stands at 6.4 feet and he's a champion fighter from Russia who remains undefeated.

Despite his English language limitations, his boxing expertise speaks for itself.

Lepikhin has been training in Ohio for the last two weeks at Mike Tyson's gym, while Berridge trained back home with his manager.

Joseph Parker looked relaxed and is now ready to take on his opponent Keith Thompson.

A strong mentality and discipline is required to be a professional boxer.

A lot of training and hard work is required of both Rob Berridge and Joseph Parker if they want to be successful in their upcoming fights this Sunday.

Up at the crack of dawn and with no time to waste, Parker went through his normal routine.

He runs 8km daily to get his body prepared followed by boxing pad work with Coach Kevin Barry.

Berridge has a very similar routine, he runs then does boxing in the afternoon.

Only time will tell who will come out on top in the big fight this Sunday.
